Write Away!

Lookie what I got! Now, I'm not into gadgetry so much . . . but come on, this is awesome! The main purpose of my new mini is to write. I LOVE to write. I always have stories and projects rolling around in my head - so much so that I often don't sleep. Now I have the means to put those ideas down. Yeah, paper and pen would work, but I can type MUCH faster than I can write it out. This is much more efficient. PLUS, it has internet access - so I can jump on the internet quickly to do any needed research for my writing projects. My hermit status just went through the roof. See y'all around! I'm gonna be a writing fool. Or just a fool who writes . . .we'll see.

Bar Country

No, not that kind of "bar." Bar - as in the big black kind.

Ever see Coal Miner's Daughter? In it, Loretta Lynn (portrayed by Sissy Spacek) says in one scene that her husband sounds like a big ol' bar.

Bar. You know. As in BEAR.

I've been trying to pin down a good running schedule while I am here. Heck, I've got 100 acres at my disposal to get some good running in - complete with an obstacle course of rotting logs, slippery rocks and steep hills. Sounds like a whole lotta fun.

Well, I've been waking up between 5 and 6 am. Don't know why. But, I thought since I'm just lying there in bed doing nothing, I might as well get out of bed and get my running in. Usually I'd do it a bit after lunch while Jonathan is down for an afternoon siesta.

Last night I proclaimed my intentions of getting up at the crack of dawn to get my running in. However, Jonathan didn't get to bed till around 11 pm. And then we had a big thunderstorm that had me up for about an hour. So, I slept in and didn't get my intended early morning run in.

What's this have to do with bar country?

I come down stairs for breakfast and my dad tells me that around 6 am my mom heard something outside and looked and saw one of the biggest black bears she's seen in these here parts. She watched him walk into the woods only to see another one of the biggest black bears she seen in these here parts walk by and disappear into the woods. TWO big black bears. TWO BIG black bears walking through the area where I should have been running. Wow.

So, I saved my run for the afternoon when Jonathan was down for his nap, cuz what kind of bear is up and about during the day? I was golden. I ran down the driveway, through pinecone alley and continued down to the third pond. It was a nice run, except it started thundering and raining. I don't mind the rain, but I'm a bit leery of the thunder and possible lightening, so I came back to the house, only finishing 2/3 of my intended running.

I wait for the thunder to pass. It passes. I decide not to run the last bit, but instead my mom, Carena and I take a brisk walk down to the third pond - taking the same path that I had just done for my run.

As we're walking down (Carena is running ahead a little bit), I look up to see a flash of black cross the path ahead of us. I yell to Carena to stop and to come back to me. That black flash was a bar. A big black bar. We could hear him crashing through the woods as he ran away from us.

YIKES. We also noticed some big bar prints in the mud. He's a big bar alright.

So, now I'm scared silly to do my run down to the third pond - because who knows what's lurking around. Every shadow is going to give me a mild heart attack. Maybe I won't be such a sissy tomorrow, but for today I'm a little wary of "bar country."

OK,I Lied. One More Post (still without pictures)

Lately, I've been thinking about goals. And I've been feeling badly. I stink at goals. I'm fairly good at setting them, but horrible at accomplishing them. People all around me set goals and accomplish them. How do you do it? I try to set reasonable goals - not impossible ones but still . . . I can't accomplish them.

What's your secret? Is there a secret? How can I accomplish my goals?

My friend Amy recently posted this quote on her blog: "Excuses are tools of the weak, and I will not use them." I'm thinking that will be my motto when approaching goals.

Ok, what I really need here is some advice for those of you who can set and accomplish goals. Little goals, big goals, you name it, I need some advice!

Blogging Break

I apologize for the blogging break that may occur. We are in PA! And really, blogging is not the top priority at this point. (And besides, I forgot my camera to computer cord so downloading pics is a no go and what fun are blog posts of PA without the pictures?)

But rest assured, we're having fun. It's been rainy the last few days making the grass so so green and lush. It's a paradise! Again, what fun is this without the pictures?

It's been simply lovely having the kids connect with their grandparents. They adore each other.

Until next time . . . Au revoir!
